On 8th March 2011, a celebration marking International Women’s Day was organized by Believers Church Jorhat Diocese. Around 400 women gathered from neighboring places for the occasion. The majority of the women had been unaware of International Women’s Day.
Jorhat Diocese Women’s Fellowship leader, Mrs. Dimple, explained how Women’s Day first began to be observed. She spoke on the need of developing the women of society and educating them so they can build up their community.
The special guests were Mrs. Manjula (local Jilla Panchayat secretary), and Mr. Bhulanath Sarma (Principal of Pragjyotica Higher Secondary School). They encouraged the women of the community to be strong and to take initiative to help other women. Both of the special guests expressed their happiness and gratefulness to Believers Church for this work and concern to educate women and help them to be aware of their role in the society.
Finally, Rev.Fr. Sibu, Vicar General of Jorhat Diocese, concluded the meeting. He affirmed that the women of the community should be supported by the church in whatever way possible. He also expressed that Believers Church would help uplift the women mentally, spiritually and economically.
