On 13th September 2010, Believers Church Colombo Diocese partnered with Probation and Childcare Services to organize a medical camp for the underprivileged. The camp was held at a village in the Kegalle district of Sri Lanka.
Rev. Fr. Sampath of Believers Church took initiative to plan the event and received approval from the government to hold the camp. The officers of Probation and Childcare Services sponsored the doctors, nurses, medical supplies and treatment.
A total of 102 people received checkups free of cost at the medical camp. The testing included blood tests for HIV/AIDS, pregnancy tests and urine tests. Eye exams were also done for elderly ladies and men.
Each person’s weight and height was measured and recorded, and all the villagers were educated on how to keep their body clean and live a healthy life.
This was an important day for the villagers since it was the first time they had the opportunity to attend a medical camp and get this type of free testing. The medical camp not only made a difference for their health, but also added value to their lives.
Sri Lanka is just one of the places Believers Church conducts medical camps. Other nations also benefit from similar camps, including India and Nepal.
