A team of relief workers from Believers Church Colombo Diocese visited the Menik Farm IDP (Internally Displaced People) camp on 5th October 2010.
The camp is located in Vavuniya district in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. A majority of the population in this district consists of Sri Lankan Tamils affected by the civil war. Hundreds of thousands of them are living in refugee camps.
Rev. Fr. Balakrishnan took initiative to arrange a visit to Vavuniya with prior approval from the government authorities. He was accompanied by another pastor and two Believers Church Women’s Fellowship members.
The team distributed 750 free milk powder packets to pregnant and nursing mothers. This made a real difference for the women and their small children, supplying necessary nutrients not readily available in their difficult situation.
Believers Church Colombo Diocese is concerned for the health and well being of the people of Sri Lanka, regardless of religion, background or ethnicity. Through the diocese’s relief work, thousands of Sri Lankans have received hope.
