Believers Church Colombo Diocese distributed school supplies to children in a needy community in northern Sri Lanka on 4th January 2013.
This area is home to people who were internally displaced by the country’s civil war. Many are widows and in very poor condition. Recent floods put this area under water, and locals sought help for even basic needs.
Major Chaminda, co-commanding army officer, requested Believers Church to help the local children with their education. So the diocese sent a relief team to give free packs of school supplies to 133 children. The packs included a school bag, notebooks, pencils, eraser, ruler, lunch box, umbrella and more.
Mothers were so thankful. “We would never be able to buy a gift pack similar to this with all the items at once to make our children happy,” a few shared.
Realizing the great need in this area, Colombo Diocese is planning to start a Bridge of Hope center here.
