Believers Church Bengaluru Diocese observed Independence Day all over Karnataka on 15th August 2009.
The Diocesan office staff and their families gathered in Bengaluru. Shri Rajanna N. (former panchayat president of Horamavu Agara) hoisted the national flag and addressed the people. He called for committed efforts toward peace and religious harmony. Rev. Fr. Sunny later led in prayer for the nation.
A Bengaluru Diocese Women’s Fellowship team visited an orphanage on the outskirts of the city and held a special program for the children. They taught songs, stories and dances and distributed sweets and smalls gifts. Around 150 children enjoyed this Independence Day program.
In Mangalore, the Minor Seminary students and staff honored the patriots who paved the way for independence. Mr. H. Nithyananada (Principal of Swami Vivekananda College), hoisted the flag and spoke on the occasion.
Later the Mangalore seminary students went to a nearby place for social work. The gram Panchayat authorities welcomed them and appreciated their willingness to serve the nation.
The students were divided into three groups to clean different areas including the roadside and local market. Pastors and church members in some districts organized programs in two hospitals and a jail.
In addition, Karnataka’s Bridge of Hope centers each held their own Independence Day festivities.
Believers Church organized social work all over India on Independence Day and encouraged thousands of people to be good citizens.
