A Women’s Fellowship team of Believers Church Imphal Diocese planned a World AIDS Day event on 1st December 2012 at a nearby village.
Dr. Thangkhojam Kom (Obstetrics and Gynecology, Regional Institute of Medical Science) spoke to the Believers Church workers and other local people who came to the program. He began with a word of appreciation to Believers Church for organizing such a social awareness program.
He shared how AIDS originated and about its discovery in the 1980’s. Bringing it to a practical level, the doctor explained how to prevent the disease.
Rev. Fr. Japha encouraged the gathering to show love and concern to AIDS patients and not discriminate against them. He shared the church’s burden for these suffering people.
“We are happy that the church is organizing such a program where we could gain more knowledge about AIDS,” said some of the participants. “It is helpful for us because often times we are so busy with our own work and life, that we do not have time to read about it for ourselves.”
Others said, “It is worth indeed coming to this program because if we had not come, we would have missed what we have learned today and we would still be ignorant.” As one woman in attendance noted, it is very important to spread awareness, especially among today’s youth.
Through the World AIDS Day initiatives of Believers Church, thousands have learned the effects of AIDS and the need for precaution.
