On the occasion of Independence Day the Sunday School department in Andhra Pradesh organized a tree-planting program. The event was carried out by the Sunday school children in Ambedkar Nagar (Karim Nagar District) and Keesara Mandalin (Rangareddy District).
Jyothi Shanker (Ambedkar Nagar sarpanch), R.K. Babu (local ward member), Rev. John (Believers Church zonal leader), Rev. Rajendra (Minor Seminary principal) and Sudheer (Sunday school leader) were involved in this program.
More than 200 children gathered for the occasion. The children performed cultural programs and went on a rally with a P.A. system shouting slogans such as, “Save trees,” “Save India,” “Children are the caretakers of India,” and “Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders.” After that the children helped plant 150 plants on the roadside.
Jyothi Shanker said, “Today most cities and towns have become cement forests and are populated by motor vehicles. It is our responsibility to plant new vegetation and save trees to avoid pollution and keep cities clean.” He appreciated Believers Church for its social welfare programs.
R.K. Babu said, “From childhood onward we have to understand the value of plants and trees.” He was thankful to Believers Church for taking the initiative to raise awareness about this issue.
