After major flooding in Andhra Pradesh, Believers Church Hyderabad Diocese distributed relief supplies to around 1,000 families. Due to heavy rainfall from June to August, the water level of the Godavari River rose, devastating thousands of hectares of crops and submerging many villages.
On 11th and 12th September, Believers Church Hyderabad Diocese set up relief stations in five places where flood victims could come and receive help. Each family received 10 kg rice, one kg dal, one liter oil, salt, two steel plates, two glasses and a bed sheet.
Village officials and other dignitaries helped with the distribution, including: Mr. Srinu (Sub-Inspector of Police), Kattam Sunitha (Sarpanch), Mr. Raju (Revenue Officer), Mr. Sampath Kumar (Municipal Commissioner), Dr. Nagendra (Medical Officer), Mrs. Shanti Kumari (Development Officer) and Isaac Thomas (High School Principal).
Twenty-eight-year-old Elizabeth lost her hut in the floods, forcing her and her family to take shelter with relatives. “I am so thankful to Believers Church for extending love toward my family,” she said after receiving relief supplies.
Believers Church has been actively involved with flood relief work this year in affected areas such as Uttarakhand, Kerala and Nepal.
