More than 235 people were screened for various eye related disorders during a free eye camp organized by Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Gorakhpur in a village on 14 July 2018.
The camp, aimed at providing free treatment to the poor villagers suffering from eye related disorders also brought awareness among them about diseases that lead to vision loss.
Along with free consultation, free medicines and eye drops were distributed to patients. Of the people screened, a total of 36 people were referred for surgery to correct cataracts. Following the eye camp, the church also helped seven of them undergo free cataract surgery on 20 July 2018.
The people who attended the camp were thankful to the church for providing them free eye check-up and awareness.
Sharda (52 years old) who underwent the eye surgery said, “I was struggling to see properly for long time and was in need of an eye surgery, but I could not afford it. I thank Believers Eastern Church for helping me to undergo the surgery free of cost. Now I can see things clearly. Thank you so much!”
Another villager, Shivparan said, “Due to eye problem, I became almost blind and was confined to home. My son is a laborer and it was beyond his ability to bear the cost of my surgery. But I thank the church for extending help to needy people like me. Now, after the surgery I am able to move around freely.”
Through organizing free medical camps at regular intervals, Believers Eastern Church takes medical care to needy areas where people live without easy access to healthcare services.
