Recognizing the crucial role of health education during adolescence, Hope for Childen Pokhara recently organized a comprehensive health awareness program focused on menstruation and personal hygiene for adolescent girls. This initiative aimed to provide accurate information, dispel myths, encourage healthy hygiene practices, and distribute hygiene kits to support young girls in managing this natural process with confidence and dignity.
The program saw the participation of 60 individuals, including adolescent girls, parents, and community members. Sister Nirmaya Thapa, a registered nurse from Dirghayu Hospital, led the session, offering clear explanations on various topics such as what menstruation is and why it occurs, common myths and facts about menstruation, the importance of personal hygiene, correct use and disposal of sanitary products, risks of poor hygiene including infections, rashes, and reproductive issues, managing pain and discomfort during periods, nutrition and rest during menstruation, and emotional and mental health during menstruation.
Sister Thapa created a safe and interactive environment where participants could ask questions without hesitation. She also demonstrated the proper use and disposal of sanitary pads and emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness.
At the end of the session, hygiene kits containing sanitary pads, soap, a comb, a brush, and toothpaste were distributed to all participants. The attendees expressed their gratitude and happiness upon receiving the kits.
Sister Kamala Kishan, a parent, shared her appreciation, saying, “Thank you, HFC, for empowering our girls and taking such an initiative for our children.”
This program by HFC Pokhara highlights the importance of health education and support for adolescent girls, ensuring they can navigate this critical stage of development with confidence and dignity.
