Hope for Children Birtamod recently conducted an Awareness Building Session on Domestic Violence to empower women and raise awareness about their rights. The program aimed to educate participants on recognizing domestic violence, understanding their legal rights, and seeking justice.
A total of 52 people attended the event, including Mrs. Gita Sharma Regmi (Women Ward Member of Birtamod Municipality, Ward No. 6), Mrs. Kopila Adhikari (Representative of Sahara Nepal), Miss Sabitra Dhakal (ANM of the Health Post at Ward No. 6), Mrs. Sushmita Rai Raut (Health Volunteer of the Health Post at Ward No. 6), Community women, and staff from Hope for Children.
The session covered key topics such as the meaning and types of domestic violence, the legal rights of victims and the appropriate channels for filing complaints, as well as guidance on seeking justice and accessing available support systems for survivors.
Mrs. Gita Sharma Regmi, addressing the participants, encouraged women to stand up against violence. She remarked, “Many women suffer from domestic violence but hesitate to seek justice. I encourage everyone here—do not be afraid or hesitant to claim your rights. We are here to support you in every way possible.”
The event concluded with a distribution of packed snacks, which the attendees appreciated.
Yamuna Ghimire, one of the participants, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am thankful to Hope for Children for organizing this program. I feel empowered and motivated to speak up against violence, both for myself and for others.”
The session was a significant step towards empowering women and equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to stand against domestic violence.
