On 2 June 2021, parishes in Believers Eastern Church Mission Diocese of Satgaon provided dry rations to 15 poor families in Nagaon district of Assam.
The distribution program was organized to help the poor and needy families who have been affected due to the second wave of Covid-19 and are facing a shortage of food items.
The priests and parish members visited the needy families and distributed relief packets to them, following the Covid-19 protocol. Each family received a week’s worth of dry ration kit consisting of 3 kg rice, 1 kg pulses, 1 kg potatoes, 1 bottle of mustard oil, and a mask.
Sajal Basumatary, a recipient, shared about the problems that his family has been going through during the lockdown. He goes to a river to catch fish, which he sells and earns income to meet the needs of his family. He said that the relief team was God-sent, who have saved his family from starving. He extended his heartfelt thanks to the Believers Eastern Church priests and believers for their love and concern towards his family.
“I am a daily wage laborer and used to work hard every day to feed my family, but due to this pandemic there is no work available for me now. So I and my family were really having a difficult time. Receiving these dry rations is a great help for us”, said another villager by name Sudhon Boshumatary.
