Believers Church Kolkata Diocese’s Poverty Alleviation Project distributed gifts to Purulia community members on 10th December 2012. The recipients were from underprivileged backgrounds and hardly earned 50 rupees a day through daily labor. Their children went without nutritious food or proper education.
The church gave some of the people tools to help them make a living, such as livestock, a rickshaw van and sewing machines. Others received gifts like blankets or tin roofing sheets to improve their standard of living.
“I am happy that I have received a bicycle,” said Satyananda. “With it I can go to far places and take my children to school.”
Monbhula gave thanks to God when he received a sewing machine. “I can start a business and open a shop in the future,” he said.
Also, a group of elderly people from a nearby leprosy colony was extremely happy to receive blankets. They could now shield themselves from the winter cold.
The Poverty Alleviation Project of Believers Church benefits hundreds of struggling communities each year.
