On 12th March 2012, Believers Church Kolkata organized a community development program in Madhyamgram on the Kolkata Diocesan Campus. Bishop Dr. Juria Bardhan addressed the participants, sharing a word of encouragement. The diocesan team extended help to 54 needy families through freely giving different items such as cows, goats, piglets, sewing machines and trolley cycles through which they can earn a living.
The recipients were underprivileged families struggling to survive through daily labor jobs and they were all grateful for the gifts they received. Their whole communities within North 24 Parganas and Hooghly will benefit as poverty is alleviated and families are enabled to live independently. The words of Kokali Soren, one recipient, demonstrate this. He says, “I was in need of someone’s help to provide my children’s education in the future because my earnings are not enough to even feed my family. Therefore, I am happy to get this piglet through which I will be able to earn good money in the future and educate my children.”
As families become able to care for themselves and educate their children, society as a whole is developed and strengthened.
