The situation in Manipur’s Jiribam district has become critical, with fresh violence breaking out and resulting in the evacuation of more than 200 people.
Ethnic tensions prevailed in Jiribam district this weekend after violence broke out following the discovery of the body of a Meitei man who had gone missing weeks ago. Police outposts and at least 70 houses have been burned down by unknown militants, according to news reports emerging from the region.
HG Jeremiah Mor Theodosius Episcopa of Imphal informed that due to the escalating violence, several villagers, including women and children, have started moving to safer locations, even to the neighboring state of Assam.
Please pray for God’s intervention and for peace and harmony in Manipur. It has been more than a year since the people of this state have been experiencing pain and turmoil from ethnic clashes. Also, pray for the protection of our bishop, parishes, and faithful of the Imphal diocese.
