On account of Children’s Day, parishes in Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Jammu
organized meaningful programs and made the day special for children. A new tuition center for nomadic children was also started on this day.
In each parish, children were given the opportunity to showcase their talents through singing, dancing and other activities. Special prayers were offered for their spiritual growth and wellbeing. At the end of the program, notebooks and other study materials were distributed to them. To add to the celebration, parishes served lunch and refreshments to the children as well.
One of the parish priests celebrated this day with the children of nomadic shepherds. There are five families with 9 children that came to this village about 25 days ago and have been living in temporary tents ever since. Due to their mobile lifestyle, these children have little hope of getting an education. Looking at their condition, the priest always felt a compelling need to teach them the basics of reading and writing. He was looking forward to offer them free tuition and thus, on Children’s Day he visited the nomadic families and with their consent started a free tuition class for their children.
The priest then distributed notebooks and pencils to the children and challenged them to study well. He has planned to conduct tuition classes every alternative day, from 4 pm to 6 pm. The parents are very happy and excited about the tuition classes and they assured him of their full cooperation.
Azadkhan, a member from this nomadic community said, “Thank you for coming to us and starting free tuition for our children. I was always worried about my children, about their future. I am so happy that you are going to teach them”.
Nazeera, a child from this community said, “I am so glad that I received notebooks and pencils for my studies. I will attend tuition classes regularly and learn all that I can.”
