Believers Church Hyderabad Diocese organized a free eye operation camp on 7th April, 2009. Church workers printed handouts to advertise the camp to 4 surrounding villages.
Dr. Mitta, a well-known doctor in A.S. Rao Nagar, came with his colleagues to test villagers suffering from eye problems. Mrs. Manchala Anita Srinivas (local panchayat president), Mrs. Hemalatha (MPTC member) and other local leaders attended the event’s inauguration. Mrs. Manchala cut the ribbon to begin the camp.
More than 100 people received free eye checkups. Dr. Mitta tested each of them and selected 17 patients for eye operations. Twelve had surgery the same day in Dr. Mitta’s hospital, and the remaining five underwent operations the next day. Additionally, medicine and spectacles were distributed to those in need of them.
The panchayat president thanked Believers Church for this social work. Local leaders asked the church to continue to do this kind of program and suggested conducting self-help courses to benefit the poor and underprivileged.
This medical camp was just one of Believers Church’s many health-based initiatives. The church holds medical camps in thousands of locations throughout South Asia.
