In continuation of its endeavor to provide medical care to the poor, Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Colombo held a free medical camp at a school on 3 November 2018.
The residents of this area are poor who earn a living from working in tea gardens. Due to cold weather and rains, children and elderly people of this locality were suffering from various illnesses. Through this medical camp, the church was able to provide timely medical support to them.
Around 500 persons including children enrolled in Bridge of Hope participated in the camp and availed free medical services. Some of the students and teachers from the school also attended the medical camp and received free medicines.
A team of professionally qualified doctors tested the patients and administered needed drugs to them. Free tests including measuring of height, weight, BMI, blood pressure and blood sugar were conducted for the patients. Besides seasonal illnesses, many children and parents were found to be suffering from sicknesses such as vitamin deficiency, intestinal parasite infection, wheezing, respiratory disease, heart problems and skin diseases. Children suffering from vitamin deficiency were provided with vitamins and supplements by the doctors.
Letchumy, a woman in her seventies, expressed her gratitude for organizing the camp saying, “I have breathing difficulty and wheezing, but I could never afford to buy medicines to treat my illness. Today I received all medicines free of charge. Thank you so much”.
