Rt. Rev. P.S. Thomas inaugurated a World Food Day program on 16th October 2010 in Kolkata Diocese. Rev. Fr. Ponnachan (Vicar General), diocesan office staff, Minor Seminary staff, students and even some children participated. The Diocese distributed food to the needy on the day.
To help make the food distribution possible, each staff member contributed the amount money they would spend on one meal. The Minor Seminary staff and students worked to prepare and pack 260 food packets containing rice, dal, egg curry and pickle.
The Believers Church team divided into three groups to hand out free food packets to the needy. The first group went to the Birati and New Barakpur railway stations.
The second group covered the Barasat railway station and surrounding area. Simultaneously, the Madhyamgram and Sodepur railway stations were visited by the third group.
The people who received the packets usually struggle to get even one meal a day. They were happy for the blessing of free food during this program. Believers Church recognized World Food Day in many locations in South Asia, taking the opportunity to feed impoverished communities.
