On Sunday, August 4, 2024, the Diocese of Churachandpur conducted a Flood Relief Distribution program at L. Deilhenphai village, located adjacent to the Twitha River. This village frequently faces flooding issues due to heavy rains and water release from the Khuga Dam, which inundates the area.
The recent severe weather began on July 30, bringing nearly a week of relentless rainfall that led to the overflow of the Twitha River, impacting our parish members and damaging the church compound area, which lacks a retaining wall.
In response to this crisis, relief items such as rice and potatoes were distributed to 20 affected families, generously donated by members from neighboring Believers Eastern Church parishes. This act of solidarity exemplifies the Christian spirit of love and compassion, as parishioners rallied together to support their affected brothers and sisters.
Expressing her gratitude, Mrs. Thethem Haokip, said, “I am moved by the concern and support from our fellow church members during this natural calamity. We are also deeply thankful to the diocesan leaders for their assistance and prayers.”
The local parish priest remarked, “We thank God for protecting our parish families during this disaster. On behalf of the parish council, I extend our sincere gratitude to all church members for their valuable contributions. May God bless you all.”
