Believers Church Bilaspur Diocese celebrated Republic Day 2013 in a very meaningful way.
The church invited village sarpanch Jowala Prasad Shuryawanshi to begin the day by hoisting the national flag. Minor Seminary students and church staff saluted the flag and sang the national anthem. Rev. Fr. Edmond then spoke about the great people who made the nation free, and prayed for the peace and prosperity of India and its rulers.
In the evening, after a festive cricket match, diocesan staff went into Bilaspur to give free blankets to beggars suffering in the cold. They visited various places including the railway station, bus stands, Sadar Bazaar and Mandir Chowk.
It was beyond the beggars’ imagination that someone would give them such nice blankets, and many cried when they saw the church team’s love.
Believers Church in India sees Republic Day as a time to improve the nation in whatever way possible. Each year, churches across the county do social work in their own communities.
