Believers Church Diocese of Mumbai organized a community development in a fire-hit slum on 29th January 2016.
On 7th December 2015, a massive fire broke out in this slum and many LPG cylinders exploded. Within a short time, the fire spread across the slum and burnt down over 1,000 huts and killed two people including a child. The poor slum dwellers lost everything and are now living in temporary shelters near a forest. So, the church decided to reach out to the neediest families among them with some relief.
That day, the church distributed bamboos, tin sheets, cement and sand to 16 families. By using these materials, they will be able to construct a small shelter for themselves.
“For the past few weeks, we were living in a small tent made by using sarees and clothes,” said Ashish Mule, one beneficiary. “Thank you so much for providing us these materials. We can construct a mall house by using it.”
Believers Church helps people in crisis by providing them with their most urgent needs through Humanitarian Assistance project.
