Feast of Saint Peter Celebrated with Joy at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Sri Lanka

The feast of Saint Peter was joyously celebrated at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Kandana, beginning at 9:00 AM on June 29, 2024. The Divine Liturgy was presided over by His Grace John Mor Irenaeus Episcopa of Delhi, and concelebrated by His Grace Geevarghese Mor Makriose Episcopa of Sri Lanka and Kigali, and His Grace Daniel Mor Timotheos Episcopa of North America and Europe. Parish priests and the faithful from across the country gathered for this sacred service in prayer and devotion.

The Divine Liturgy, the main event of the day, featured traditional prayers, hymns, and readings that honored Saint Peter’s legacy. Conducted with deep reverence, the service reflected the spiritual significance of the day. Each bishop delivered a homily emphasizing Saint Peter’s virtues and teachings. Special prayers were offered for the unity of the church, the well-being of the faithful, and global peace.

Following the Divine Liturgy, a procession took place, carrying the icon of Saint Peter around the village where the church is situated, blessing all the residents. The celebration concluded with a communal meal, providing parishioners an opportunity to connect and strengthen the bonds of faith and fellowship.
