St. Thomas, also called “Doubting
Thomas,” despite his initial unbelief
in the Resurrection, came to confess
Jesus Christ as “Lord and God.”
According to tradition, he preached
the Gospel to the Parthians and
South Indians and even today,
the Syrian Christians in Kerala
identify themselves as “St. Thomas
Christians” in memory of this great
Apostle. Martyred and buried at
Mylapore near Madras (Chennai),
he is depicted with a spear, the
instrument of his martyrdom.
