In a liturgical service held on 14 October 2018, all the episcopas of Believers Eastern Church took up an ecclesiastical name, following the two thousand year old tradition of the historical church.
One of the main decisions made in the Synod Council Meeting of Believers Eastern Church held in August 2018 was for all the episcopas of the church to take up an ecclesiastical name. These names have been carefully and prayerfully chosen to represent a life linked closely with historical godly saints and leaders of the church. Some of the names are those of apostles, church fathers, martyrs and saints of the early church.
The Metropolitan will henceforth be known as Moran Mor Athanasius Yohan I Metropolitan. Likewise, our other episcopas will also be known by their new ecclesiastical names. The new names our Episcopas have taken up, show their deep commitment and ownership of our church and has everything to do with constantly carrying the message that their lives are intertwined with that of the church.
