As Nepal grapples with severe winter weather, several regions are facing plummeting temperatures, exacerbating the hardships of communities already reeling from the aftermath of a devastating earthquake. In areas like Rukum and Jajarkot, where homes were ravaged by the seismic event, the biting cold has amplified the struggles of residents who continue to endure shortages in basic necessities such as food and shelter.
In response to the pressing need for immediate assistance, various organizations, including Believers Eastern Church, have stepped in to offer support. Temporary shelters in the form of tents have been set up for families grappling with the complete loss of their homes. In fact, in the aftermath of the earthquake, the Kohalpur Diocese, recognizing the urgency of the situation, swiftly mobilized aid efforts, supplying essential items like tarpaulin and food provisions to alleviate the suffering of the affected population.
Despite these relief efforts, vulnerable groups, particularly children and the elderly, continue to battle the severe cold without adequate protection from the elements. Many lack blankets and warm clothing crucial for shielding themselves from the harsh weather conditions.
Addressing this critical gap, the Diocese of Kohalpur initiated the third phase of relief efforts, specifically focusing on providing much-needed warmth to those displaced by the earthquake. On the 4th of December 2023, a distribution event took place in Rukum District, Nepal, where 95 individuals, primarily those who had lost their homes and possessions, received blankets. The recipients expressed profound gratitude to the church for extending a helping hand during this frigid season, acknowledging the blankets as a crucial lifeline in their battle against the cold.
