Weeks of heavy rain in December 2012 flooded Sri Lanka, affecting more than three lakh people. Nearly 4,000 homes were destroyed, and 10,000 were partially damaged. Landslides affected transportation, blocking many roads.
Believers Church Colombo Diocese visited one affected community during this time and distributed dry ration packets. 65 needy families received the packets, which contained: rice, dal, sugar, tea leaves, canned fish, potatoes, dry fish and curry powder.
“This dry ration pack is a great help for us in this situation,” said a flood victim.
Later, a Believers Church relief team cleaned more than 10 wells in another place, helping villagers to get pure drinking water. They also cleaned areas which were destroyed by landslides.
This was not just a onetime relief effort. As needs surface, Believers Church provides aid to victims of flooding, cyclones, earthquakes and more.
