The cyclonic storm Ockhi that struck the southern districts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu on 30th November 2017 has left scores of fishermen dead and caused large scale destruction across several coastal villages of both the States. Besides the loss of lives and livelihood, the hamlets of many fishermen have been washed away. Many fishermen are still reported missing at sea.
In an effort to reach out to the fishermen communities affected by the cyclone, Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Niranam held a relief supply distribution in one of the coastal villages of Alappuzha District on 20th December 2017.
The humanitarian assistance team from the diocese spearheaded by Dr. KP Yohannan, Metropolitan visited the affected area where they distributed dry rations and essential items to 250 cyclone affected families. Dr. KP Yohannan, Metropolitan consoled the families that lost their boats, houses and property in the deadly cyclone and helped in handing out the relief items.
