Various departments of Believers Church Dhemaji Diocese held Global Hand Washing Day programs on 15th October 2010.
Bridge of Hope organized an event in a village at Dhemaji. The leadership invited two senior government doctors and two nurses to participate in the program. Dr. Bisewar Pegu was the special guest.
Around 300 people from the community gathered for the awareness program. They learned the importance of hand washing and its vital role in helping prevent disease. In addition, the town committee president gave a speech about Global Hand Washing Day.
The Dhemaji Women’s Fellowship department held a program in partnership with Believers Church of Lakhimpur district. They invited Dr. Deep Kumar Pegu as the special guest, and he gave a short speech to the 200 people who gathered.
The Women’s Fellowship assistant leader, Mrs. Kumari, highlighted the importance of hand washing in day-to-day life to prevent diseases.
The Minor Seminary students organized an awareness program at the Dhemaji Minor Seminary campus.
Special guest Mrs. Satya, a staff nurse, gave a speech about the beginning of Global Hand Washing day and its significance. She also stressed the importance of washing hands and staying hygienic. This program was attended by 160 people.
The diocese also held a program especially for children in Jonai. They invited a nurse, Mrs. Suity Pegu, as the guest of honor. She taught the children how important it is to wash their hands, and how it will keep them from sickness.
Believers Church worker Rajesh demonstrated the practical steps of how to wash hands properly. Subsequently, they screened a film about the same subject. 120 people benefited from this program.
In total, 780 people in Dhemaji Diocese gained knowledge about how to stay clean and protected from illness that day. And thousands more learned similar lessons in different parts of South Asia through Believers Church hygiene awareness initiatives.
