Believers Church Uttarakhand distributed BioSand water filters to a displaced community in December 2012.
These people had been forced to move to a new village after their homes were affected by the overflow of Tehri Dam. They struggled in this new place. The new village’s hand pumps only produced dirty water that turned vessels yellow. The villagers could not afford to do anything to improve the situation.
Believers Church Uttarakhand discovered the people’s need through a local worker and installed BioSand water filters. The villagers were amazed to learn that the filters could purify even their muddy water. A community member named Ranjni shared about the difference made by Believers Church’s gift.
“When guests came to my family,” she said, “I would feel shy to offer a glass of water to them because the water which we have been using is yellow in color, and sand was found in it. But after installing the BioSand water filter, I am happy to offer a glass of water to my guest.”
A young village girl named Tanish loves drinking filtered water for a simple reason. “It is tasty,” she says.
Believers Church improves hundreds of communities like this one each year through free water filters.
