On 23rd June 2016, Believers Church Diocese of Vijayawada conducted a gift distribution program to celebrate the occasion of International Widows Day.
The program was held in a colony where many widows live in a poor and helpless state. Some of them being abandoned by their children lead a life of loneliness and sorrow. They do odd jobs to sustain themselves, but the wages they receive is barely enough to meet their food needs, let alone to buy clothes. Seeing the need, the Church took initiative to distribute sarees to 60 widows in this colony.
The chief guest Miss. Uma Maheswari (Corporator of this colony), said, “I deeply appreciate the works of Believers Church towards the poor, needy, and helpless people in the society”.
Mangamma, a 50 year old widow said, “I am a widow. I have two daughters who are married and settled elsewhere, but they don’t care about me. I never think of buying cloths because the amount of money that I get from labor work is hardly sufficient for my food expenses. I am really thankful to you for this gift.”
