Believers Church Diocese of Raipur celebrated International Widows Day by organizing various gift distribution programs on June 23, 2016. The programs held in four leprosy colonies were conducted by Women’s Fellowship and Sisters of Compassion teams.
In a society where widows are already looked down upon, widows affected by leprosy face double stigma and discrimination as there is a strong social stigma attached to leprosy. Recognizing the need to show love to such unloved widows, Diocese of Raipur held these programs.
On this day, 22 widows received a pair of custom-made sandals each and hygiene items such as bath soap and toothpaste and 17 widows received sarees, 30 widows received mosquito nets and 23 widows received plates and glass as gifts. The widows were touched by this gesture of benevolence.
Altogether 92 widows from the leprosy colonies were helped through the distribution programs.
