On 23rd June 2016, Believers Church Diocese of Patna conducted a special program to honor widows by gifting them with sarees and sewing machines. The program was organized to mark the International Widows Day, a day dedicated to honor and support widows around the world.
Mr. Sanjeev Chourasia, MLA, Digha Constituency, was the Chief Guest of the function. While delivering keynote address he said, “International Widows Day is observed to address the issues faced by millions of widows all over the world”. He then expressed his concerns about the number of widows who suffer in silence and subjected to extreme poverty, isolation, violence and disinheritance. He also thanked Believers Church for taking efforts to help the helpless and most needy widows in the society.
During the event, 138 sarees and 12 sewing Machines were distributed to 150 widows. The widows thanked the church for the gift and concern shown to them.
“I was so encouraged by this program where I could feel and see love for us ‘widows’. God bless the church abundantly for this good work which they have done for the widows,” said Rupmani Devi, a 45 year old widow.
