On 12th June 2016, Believers Church Diocese of Patna observed World Day Against Child Labor by organizing rallies and awareness programs in several places to draw public attention to the plight of children who are exploited by child labor.
Around 750 children and the staff of Bridge of Hope participated in the programs conducted on this day. Highlighting the issues of child labor, the Bridge of Hope children performed various dances, skits, songs and poems. The Bridge of Hope staff explained to parents and general public about how child laborers are forced to work in degrading conditions and face abuse, harassment and discrimination.
Addressing the public in one of the places a Bridge of Hope staff said, “When we look into the eyes of little children, we want to see smile, joy, peace, love, and happiness in their eyes. But if those things are replaced by hunger, fear, loneliness, anxiety, and helplessness, then that must arrest our thoughts and break our hearts to do something for them.” He further added saying, “The future of a family and the nation depends on children.”
The programs were indeed successful in creating awareness about the need to protect, promote and defend the rights of children and fight against child labor.
