Awareness programs, literacy awareness rallies and an array of events marked this year’s International Literacy Day celebration in Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Lucknow. As many as 66 adult literacy centers were started on the occasion.
According to UNESCO, globally there are more than 750 million youth and adults who still cannot read and write, and there are 250 million children who are failing to acquire basic literacy skills.
So, in order to promote literacy and raise awareness on the importance of education among the general public, Believers Eastern Church dioceses around the globe organized special programs at different places on 8 September 2018. As part of celebration, hundreds of new adult literacy centers were inaugurated which will give illiterate women a second chance at education and open a world of opportunities for them.
The church’s adult literacy program, initiated in 2007, has helped tens of thousands of women to break free from the clutches of illiteracy and ignorance and empowered them to rise above poverty.
