Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Itahari recently concluded a dynamic and impactful two-day ‘Youth Retreat’ held at the Holy Trinity Believers Eastern Church on the 13th and 14th of November 2023. The event, organized by the Youth Council, aimed to inspire and engage young individuals in the ministry of the Holy Church while actively involving them in serving their local community.
The retreat, attended by a vibrant group of 210 youths representing various local parishes, commenced with the celebration of Divine Liturgy and Holy Eucharist at 7:00 am, setting the tone for a spiritually enriching experience.
His Grace Theodore Mor Origen Episcopa, Bishop of Itahari Diocese, and the diocesan Vicar were the resource persons during the retreat. Episcopa, emphasizing the theme drawn from Matthew 5:16, urged the youth to radiate their light to those engulfed in the darkness of ignorance. His sermon centered on repentance and the infilling of the Holy Spirit. The diocesan Vicar taught the participants about true worship, Holy traditions and practices of the church, and Divine Liturgy. He also encouraged them to contribute to societal change.
Beyond these enriching sessions, the retreat offered a platform for friendly competition, including a spirited bible quiz featuring teams from four districts. The event also showcased the artistic talents of the participants through a captivating singing and dance competition, where each performer exhibited remarkable skill and enthusiasm.
The culmination of the retreat saw the distribution of trophies and certificates to the deserving winners.
Reflecting on the transformative experience, Shanti Rai expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I am so encouraged by this retreat program. I now understand the responsibilities and duties of a youth in both the Church and the community. I am committed to applying these teachings in my life.”
