Diocese of Hyderabad Ordains Over 150 New Deacons in Two Sacred Ceremonies

In a momentous occasion, St. Thomas Believers Eastern Cathedral in the Diocese of Hyderabad celebrated the ordination of 157 men to the holy order of diaconate. Over two separate ceremonies, held on May 19 and May 26, 2023, a total of 92 and 65 men were respectively ordained as deacons.

The first ordination took place on May 19, 2023, where the cathedral was filled with an air of reverence and anticipation. A total of 92 candidates, who had diligently prepared themselves for this sacred calling, were welcomed into the order of Diaconate. The ordination ceremony, steeped in tradition and deep spiritual significance, was presided over by H.G. Dr. Samuel Mor Theophilus Episcopa, Archbishop of Chennai Archdiocese.

Also participating in the service were H.G. Joseph Mor Demetrious Episcopa and H.G. Benjamin Mor Gregoriose Episcopa. With unwavering commitment and devotion, the newly ordained deacons pledged to serve the church and its members with humility and compassion.

The second ordination ceremony on 26 May witnessed a similar atmosphere of devotion and joy. With 65 ordinands about to embark on their diaconal journey, the church community, around 600 people, including the clergy, area leaders, diocesan staff and the relatives of the ordinands, came together once again to witness the formal initiation of the newly ordained deacons.

During the sacred ceremony, H.G. Dr. Samuel Mor Theophilus Episcopa ordained the men through the imposition of hands and the invocation of the Holy Spirit. After which he presented the Bible to each of them.

Addressing the congregation, H.G. Dr. Samuel Mor Theophilus Episcopa emphasized the vital role of deacons in the life of the church. He highlighted the importance of humility, compassion, and service to others, urging the newly ordained deacons to lead a holy life and hold onto the faith and practices of the Church. He also thanked the congregation for their presence and the effort they took to travel from different parts of the state of Telangana.

The ordination ceremony also included a touching moment as family members and loved ones stood by their sides, offering prayers and blessings. The event concluded with a joyous fellowship meal.
