On January 10, 2025, Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Dimapur extended a helping hand to 30 families who were severely impacted by a devastating fire in the Belta colony, located in the Dimapur District of Nagaland. The relief effort included the distribution of dry ration kits, clothes, and kitchen utensils to aid these families in their time of need.
The unfortunate incident occurred on January 8, 2025, when a fire engulfed the colony, reducing the bamboo-structured houses with CGI roofs to ashes. Thankfully, there were no fatalities, although one individual sustained minor injuries while attempting to save his belongings.
The fire is believed to have started from a kerosene stove in one of the hutments around 5 p.m., as per statements from the colony council members and nearby residents. The affected community, primarily composed of auto drivers and daily wage earners, faced immense loss as their homes and possessions were destroyed.
In response to this tragedy, the Diocese provided each of the 30 families with essential supplies, including 10 kilograms of rice, 2 kilograms of pulses, 1 kilogram of salt, 1 liter of mustard oil, 5 kilograms of potatoes, clothes, and kitchen utensils.
Brother Manoj Mech, one of the fire survivors, expressed his gratitude, stating, “We lost everything in the fire. I am so grateful to the church for the distribution of the relief materials during the time of our difficulties.”
The Diocese calls upon the community to pray for the affected families, asking God to provide them strength and resources to rebuild their lives swiftly.
