In celebration of Children’s Day, Believers Eastern Diocese of Colombo brought joy to 200 underprivileged children in the Kaduwela region of the Colombo District, Sri Lanka. The event, organized by the diocese, took place at six different locations, leaving a positive impact on the local community.
The chief guest for this special occasion was Hon. Premnath C. Dolawatte, Attorney at Law and Member of Parliament (M.P). In his address to the gathering, he expressed his delight at the initiative, which aimed to provide much-needed stationery items to children facing economic hardships.
At the heart of the event was the distribution of stationery kits, carefully designed to support the children’s educational needs. Each child received a kit that included eight exercise books, a set of two pens, and a packet of 400 ml milk. In a move to further assist these young beneficiaries, the People’s Bank made a generous contribution by creating savings accounts with 500 Rupees for each child.
To conclude the heartwarming day, refreshments were served to all those in attendance, adding a sense of celebration to the event. Similar distribution programs were conducted at five other locations, bringing smiles to the faces of countless children in need who eagerly awaited essential stationery items for their studies.
Dakshi, one of the fortunate children who received stationery, expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you for the gift. This will help me a lot in my studies.”
Mrs. Gayathri, a Pre-School Teacher, commended the program for its positive impact on the children and their parents, stating, “Programs of this kind benefit the children and also their parents. I want to thank the organizers of the program for being so mindful of these poor kids.”
