In a heartfelt community initiative, Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Colombo recently organized a dry ration distribution program for the residents of Sedawatte Wellampitiya. This outreach effort was undertaken in response to a request from the Presidential Secretariat to support underprivileged families in the area.
The event saw the participation of several notable figures, including Mr. Sudeshana Bandara, Former President’s Personal Secretary and Special Project Director, Mr. Pradeep Jayawardhana, grandson of Sri Lanka’s first president, the late J.R. Jayawardhana, Moulavi Dr. I.Y.M. Haniff, a respected religious leader, and the Sedawaththa Rajamaha Viharaya Buddhist Thero, along with the Kolannawa Raja Maha Viharaya Buddhist Thero. These distinguished guests not only helped organize the event but also delivered inspiring speeches to the attendees.
Following the speeches, the distribution of dry rations commenced. A total of 100 individuals received essential items such as rice, dhal, sugar, and other basic food supplies. This initiative highlighted the unity among different religious and community leaders, working together to assist those in need.
Mr. S. Kumar, a recipient, expressed his gratitude: “This was a much-needed support for us. The community is going through tough times, and this help means a lot. We appreciate everyone involved in this initiative.”
Mrs. N. Sumathi, another beneficiary, shared her feelings: “I feel blessed to receive the dry rations today. It’s good to see different religious leaders and community members coming together to help us.”
Through such outreach programs, the Colombo Diocese continues its mission of compassion, reaffirming its commitment to serving the vulnerable and addressing the needs of the less fortunate.
