On the occasion of International Widows Day, 23rd June 2016, Diocese of Mumbai arranged special programs in two slums where poverty alleviating gifts were distributed to poor widows to help them extricate themselves from poverty and live a life of dignity.
A total of 45 helpless and destitute widows from these two slums received various income-generating gifts such as sewing machines, candle making moulds and goats on this day. The widows received the gifts with much joy.
“I have been working as a maid servant for long years in order to take care of my three daughters. Today, the church gifted me a sewing machine. I am so happy that this gift will bring more earnings and help my family become financially stable,” said a widow.
