On 7 June 2021, a local parish in Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Kolkata extended help to 50 families in East Medinipur District, West Bengal, which were affected by the Cyclone Yaas.
The parish distributed dry rations and food packets to the affected families. The local panchayat leader was also present at the distribution program. The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the church for the timely help.
As many as 18 lakh people were affected and around 2.21 lakh hectares of crops and 71,560 hectares of horticulture area in West Bengal got damaged by Cyclone Yaas that made its landfall in Odisha on May 26. Digha and Sundarbans were among the worst-hit areas in the state. West Bengal Chief Minister Shri. Mamata Banerjee said that the state has incurred a total loss of more than Rs 20,000 crore due to the Cyclone.
