Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Kohalpur in Nepal reached out to the Badi community, one of the country’s most deprived and marginalized groups, with dry rations on 23 July 2021.
The distribution was held in a slum area in Kailali district where 164 Badi families are living under most appalling conditions. They do not have their own land and house. They are believed to have migrated from Uttar Pradesh in India. They used to make a living out of making ‘madal’, traditional Nepali musical instrument drum, and catching fish in the past. But of late it has become very difficult for them to manage a square meal from both these professions. And the Covid-19 pandemic has only exacerbated their crisis. Without a job and alternative means to earn a livelihood, many of them have been battling hunger and starvation.
On seeing their struggle for survival, Diocese of Kohalpur provided dry rations to 26 families in this community that were in dire need of help. Each family received a sack of rice, dal, cooking oil, salt and soaps.
