There is no better gift than providing warm blankets to the needy during the winter season. In an effort to offer warmth against the biting cold, Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Kathmandu reached out to one of the most marginalized people groups in Nepal called ‘Kumal’ with thick and warm blankets on 2 January 2022.
The Kumals are settled in different parts of Nepal. However, their place of origin has not yet been confirmed. They are regarded as one of the backward and ancient indigenous people groups of Nepal. Their traditional occupation is making clay pots. Currently, they earn their living from farming and animal husbandry.
Mr. Bhim Bahadur Kumar, executive member of local municipality, and Mr. Sundar Tamang, chairperson of youth corporation were present at the distribution program. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhim Bahadur Kumar said, “Believers Eastern Church Nepal is doing a great work among the backward and underprivileged people. The church is doing the work which we are unable to do. I am really impressed by the social welfare programs of the church”.
After his speech, the blankets were handed over to 50 people from the Kumal people group. Each one of them received the blanket with a thankful heart.
Bindu Kumal, one of the recipients said, “I am so much grateful to Believers Eastern Church Nepal for providing us blankets during this winter season. We barely receive such help from anyone. No one or any organization has ever come to our village and helped us. But you have reached out to us. I shall never forget your kindness.”
