On 23rd June 2016, Believers Church Diocese of Jorhat observed International Widows Day to honor widows by gifting them with sewing machines to help them sustain their families and manage their livelihood.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest Mrs. Roshni Aparanji Korati, IAS (Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, Govt. of Assam) said, “I have been to many places, but I have never seen social work of this magnitude carried out by any organization. But today I am very happy that Believers Church has undertaken this huge social welfare activity to help many poor and needy widows in our generation.”
Altogether 60 widows received the gifts on this day through the church.
“I am very thankful to the Church for giving me this sewing machine. Due to financial problem, we were finding it much difficult to meet the needs of our family. Moreover, my daughter wanted to go for higher studies but we had no resource to support her education. Today, I am happy that I will be able to send my daughter for higher studies through sewing,” said Surbi Kormokar, a widow.
