Extending a helping hand, Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Hyderabad distributed essential items to the poor and needy, who are unable to feed themselves because of the ongoing lockdown in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak.
A parish priest in Warangal district visited a slum area where he provided essential items consisting of 5 kg rice, 1 liter oil, 5 kg of mixed vegetables, and few groceries to 10 families. These families live in small huts in deplorable conditions. They make their living from scavenging and collecting and selling recyclable waste from the streets and landfills.
In addition to this, he also visited 3 Covid-affected families in another village that were struggling to get essential supplies due to the lockdown. He distributed rice, groceries and vegetables to them by following the Covid-19 protocol.
Another priest from Khammam district reached out to a tribal community in an interior village who were in dire need of help. They were struggling to get vegetables and were not able to come out of the village due to the stern lockdown implementation. The priest distributed vegetable kits to 30 families in this village.
Anusuya, a waste picker, said, “Our work involves cleaning the streets by picking up waste material and ever since the lockdown was imposed, our survival has become hard and it was difficult to get food. But, the parish priest visited us and provided us with food items. We are thankful to Believers Eastern Church for helping us during this time of crisis.”
A total of 53 needy families were helped with necessities through the distributions held by the parishes.
