Diocese of Hyderabad Gives Sewing Machines and Push Carts to 15 Widows in a Leper Colony

On 27th July 2017, Believers Church Diocese of Hyderabad distributed income-generating tools to widows living in a leper colony.

These widows lost their husbands, the sole breadwinners of the family, to leprosy a long time ago. As a result of losing their husbands at a very young age, they were treated badly by the society and they faced double discrimination because of the stigma attached to leprosy. They also suffered from poverty as they had no assured means of earning an income.

Recognizing the need to lend a helping hand to them, the diocese gave them sewing machines and push carts to help them free themselves from poverty and live a life a dignity. Altogether 15 helpless and destitute widows were helped through the distribution.

Aruna (45 years old) was one among those who received a sewing machine that day. Her husband passed away 25 years ago due to leprosy. Gradually she also fell victim to leprosy. In order to survive and take care of her two daughters, she resorted to begging. Recently, one of her daughters learned stitching free of cost, but she could not buy a sewing machine due to lack of money. They were in a helpless situation. It was at this time, Aruna received the sewing machine. With tears of joy, she thanked the church for showing compassion upon her family and giving them the needed gift.
