The monsoon floods affected more than 25 lakh people living in 25 districts of Uttar Pradesh and left thousands of people displaced from their homes.
To lend a helping hand to those affected by the floods, a humanitarian assistance team from Believers Church Diocese of Gorakhpur visited two relief camps on 21st August 2017 where they distributed bread, pickle and clean drinking water to 500 people. They continued the relief work for five consecutive days and helped the affected families. They distributed biscuit packets, water, chapati and curry, medicines, flattened rice and sugarcane, poori and curry, candles and matchbox, thus helping the victims stay afoat in the aftermath of the calamity.
Receiving the food packet distributed on the first day of the relief work, an old woman said, “I have not eaten anything for three days”. She was alone as the floods displaced her family and she had no idea where her family members were. “I am thankful to you for providing me food,” she added.
