Diocese of Gangtok Reaches out to Needy Families Affected by Indefinite Strike

The indefinite strike demanding a separate ‘Gorkhaland’ has paralyzed life in Darjeeling. Except medical shops and hospitals, all other shops, business establishments, schools and colleges remain closed and the situation remains tense in the hills. The people’s normal life, including the region’s economy based on tea and tourism has been severely affected due to the shutdown. As shops and markets remain closed, the region faces a severe shortage of food, fuel and other essential commodities.

Responding to this crisis, on 31st August 2017, Believers Church Diocese of Gangtok organized relief distributions in Kalimpong and Darjeeling districts where people have been adversely affected by the strike and in dire need of help.

The diocese provided dry ration items such as rice and oil to a total of 104 needy families in these two districts.
