Diocese of Dhemaji Gives Poverty Alleviation Gifts to Widows

Believers Church Diocese of Dhemaji organized a community development program on 23rd June 2016 to commemorate International Widows Day. Various gifts including tools for poverty alleviation were distributed to needy widows on this day.

A total of 70 widows received different gifts such as goats, piglets, tin sheets and blankets through the program conducted by the church. These widows have been living in extreme poverty. Recognizing the hardships these widows face on daily basis to sustain their families, the church undertook the initiative to conduct this gift distribution program.

Labanya Pasar, a 40 year old widow said, “Every since my husband passed away, I have been living a life of despair. I live in a mud house which leaks profusely when it rains. I had to endure many sleepless nights because of the leaks. Today I am glad that I received a tin sheet to cover my roof. Thank you very much for this gift”.
